Lower Antelope Canyon, Az

I wanted to visit the lower canyon, because I have never been there and I was near there in October. These pictures was taken on 23rd of October, 2007. I sign up at 10:00 am and the cost is $21.00 total, for 4 hours of Photo. Which mean that you paid your money and they let you wonder around the canyon area. When I went down to the canyon, there was already 5-6 photographers there taking pictures. I think the reason they start so early is that, there is less wind. The place does open at 8:00 am. I did walk to the other end and shoot my way back to the entrance. When I was shooting my way back, I only met one other photographer and it was his first time. The canyon is below ground level and is very narrow at time, any wind will blow dust to the canyon floor and it will make it very hard on the equipment. I was lucky, there was no wind, when I was shooting. Lower Antelope Canyon is across the road from the Upper Antelope Canyon. If you only have one choice to shoot the canyon, the Upper Antelope Canyon will be the best bet. Or you could shoot the Upper Antelope Canyon in the morning and after noon and then go to the Lower Antelope Canyon and shoot in the late after noon when the sun is lower.

You paid your $21.00 for the enterance to the lower canyon at the visiting center and you enter
to the lower canyon, yes it is below ground. I wonder why they called it Lower Antelope Canyon?
One of the biggest problem is that, when it get windy, there are a lot of dust in the canyon and
it is really hard on the equipement. The left and center image was taken with the Canon 1Ds MkII
with the 24 mm to 70 mm zoom lenses. All the images taken inside the canyon was taken with the
Mamiya 645 AFD with the P45 digital back, lenses used is either the 55 mm to 110 mm zoom or
the 35 mm wide angle lenses.

The lower canyon is much narrower then the upper canyon. In some places there is only a foot
between the canyon walls.

The lower canyon has some of the more intresting formations, it is a good place to go
to shoot, during the winters months. No, sun hitting the canyon walls.

These are some more of the intresting formation at the lower canyon. The lower canyon is not
like the upper canyon, you do have to claim down and up on steel ladders and some places are
narrow. It does take some work walking threw the canyon. It also is a bad place to be, if it is windy.
Dust could be flying everywhere. But you will get some great images, if the condition is right.
